Junior “C” Lacrosse Comes to Centre Wellington!!!
The Elora/Fergus Minor Lacrosse Association is pleased to
announce that the
C.W
Warlords will be participating in the Junior “C” Lacrosse League in
2008.
John Doherty, OLA
President says “We welcome back the OLA Junior C League as a pilot
project
in 2008 and look forward to its success. The accelerated growth of lacrosse in
Ontario
allows
us to expand opportunities in the Junior tier of our sport. The OLA Junior C
League was
an
important part of the history of the game and our Association from 1972 to
1982.”
The rebirth of Junior
C lacrosse is a direct result of continuous growth of the sport in Ontario.
OLA membership has
more than doubled over the past ten years, to approximately 42,000
registered
members in 2007.
“We are very excited
about the return of Junior C lacrosse in Ontario. This is a tremendous
opportunity
for players to remain in their home centre and enjoy playing Junior lacrosse,”
said
Doug Luey, Junior C Commissioner. Participating in the return of
Junior C lacrosse are
franchises
in Caledon, Centre-Wellington, Innisfil, Shelburne,
and West Durham.
The main goal of
Junior C is to give opportunities for the lacrosse players of Centre Wellington
to
play Junior level lacrosse in their hometown, as they strive to develop and
move on to
Junior B and/or
Junior A lacrosse.“We look forward to giving the
residents of Centre Wellington
another
Junior sports team to support and bring some more excitement in the summer to
Centre Wellington.”
The Junior C League
will begin our season the first week of May, with the majority of the games
played
mid-week. The League has a sixteen game regular season schedule, with a
best-of-five
semi-final
playoff series followed by a best-of-seven Ontario Championship Final.
